Vice Admiral Kyd has attended several matches at JRFC since taking up the role of Lieutenant-Governor, the British monarch’s representative in Jersey, in October 2022.
JRFC Chair Dan McAlister said: “We’re delighted that His Excellency has agreed to take on this position. We’ve seen during his previous trips to the club someone who enjoys his rugby, and to have a formal link to Government House in this way is fantastic for the club.”
Vice Admiral Kyd said: “I’m delighted to accept being Co-Patron of Jersey RFC. I am a strong believer in sport and the enormously positive impact it has on people’s physical and mental well-being. And I am particularly keen on seeing as many young people, and children as possible getting their boots on, and giving rugby and tag-rugby a go!”
During the past season both the men’s and women’s teams from JRFC were able to celebrate success in their respective leagues. The men won 20 of the 22 games to take the Regional 2 South Central title and secure promotion to Regional 1 SC, while the women were defeated only once as they won promotion as champions of National Championship South East (South).
Vice Admiral Kyd joins William, Lord Jersey, as a Co-Patron of JRFC. Lord Jersey has supported the club over many years, including backing the annual Lord Jersey Cup, which is contested between Island schools every March.
