While the Exiles need just two league points from their game at Wimbledon to seal top spot with a game to spare, Jersey will be keen to push on – just in case – for the 19th league win of an excellent campaign.
There’s also the prospect of revenge, with Alleynians the only side, apart from London Welsh, to have beaten JRFC this season. The match in Dulwich in late January was a 12-try thriller, and OAs were good value for their 41-36 win.
Head of Rugby Myles Landick has shuffled his squad a little, with returns in the back line for Tom Williams and Rory Drummond, plus an opportunity for Jacques De La Bat to show his ability at scrum-half.
Huw Owen and George Willmott are missing from the forward ranks, but Landick has nevertheless been able to select players who’ve played significant roles across the season to date.
JRFC (15-9, 1-8): Tom Williams; Rory Drummond, Nathan Rogers, Dan Barnes, Mark Boarer; Aaron Penberthy, Jacques De La Bat; Joe Ridgway, Jack Macfarlane, Tom Wilson, Max Ayling, Euan Spencer, Tom Tilstone, Evan Whitson (capt), Jerry Sexton. Replacements: George Thomas, Bryn Edwards, Eryk Swiech.
Alleynians, promoted as champions of Regional 2 South-East last season, are currently eighth in the table and within touching distance of sixth. A difficult start to the season brought five losses from six outings, but the club, founded in 1898 for former pupils of Dulwich College, now have eight wins from their 19 games.
Ahead of the 3pm men’s game, JRFC Women host top-of-the-table opposition at 11.30am, when Dartford Valley could clinch the league title if they can get a win from their Island tour.
The home side will be looking to build on an excellent display in their last home outing against Canterbury, and will no doubt be inspired by this week’s news that one of their number is set to play for England – Seren Coombs had a call-up for next month’s Under-18 Six Nations tournament.
On Saturday April 5th, there’s another double-header lined up at CoinShares Park, with the men in action first against Tunbridge Wells (kick-off’s at 2pm) and the women lining up straight afterwards against Pulborough.
Then all eyes will turn to the Siam Cup, sponsored by Gallagher, with four home games lined up against old rivals and Island neighbours Guernsey on Saturday May 3rd.
